The closing ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio ended on the night of August 21-22. For Russia, these games have become very difficult, we can say scandalous. However, our athletes overcame all the trials and were fourth in the medal standings. And here is the medal rating of the Olympics.
10. Australia
A total of 29 awards: 8 gold, 11 silver, 10 bronze.
On the first day of the Olympics, the Australians showed the best result in the water relay 4 in 100 meters freestyle. The female four set a world record - 3: 30.65. However, it was not possible to maintain a vigorous medal pace until the end of the games, as a result only 10th place.
9. Italy
The total number of medals is 28: 8 gold, 12 silver, 8 bronze.
Fabio Bazile defeated the representative of South Korea in judo (weight up to 66 kg). Another gold medal will be brought home by the foil fencer Daniele Garozzo, who was considered an outsider, because his opponent was the vice-world champion in this discipline, American Alexander Massialas. And the whole 4 gold medals were won by Italians in such discipline as shooting.
8. Korea
The total number of medals is 21: 9 gold, 3 silver and 9 bronze.
In the winter of 2018, the next Olympic Games will be held in Pyeongchang (a city in South Korea). The country's authorities have already promised to remove the language barrier, which inevitably arises between the participants in grand competitions. A number of research institutes and IT companies are already working on creating new programs for automatic translation.
7. France
A total of 42 medals: 10 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze.
For the first time since 1976, the French won the team dressage (equestrian sport). An interesting story is connected with this victory: one of the finalists Philippe Rosier is the son of Marcel Rosier, who was the Olympic champion in the French team in the same sport just in 1976.
6. Japan
A total of 41 awards: 12 gold, 8 silver and 21 bronze.
The sixth place of the medal top 10 was taken by Japanese athletes. And Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike received the flag of the Olympic Games, because the Japanese capital will have to organize the 2020 games.
5. Germany
A total of 42 medals: 17 gold, 10 silver and 15 bronze.
Long-standing rivals of Russia in sports could not get around our athletes in the total number of medals. The awards of the highest dignity, in particular, were won by: canoe player Sebastian Brendel, at a distance of 1000 meters in singles and doubles and kayakers Max Rendschmidt and Marcus Gross, at a distance of 1000 meters in doubles and fours.
4. Russia
A total of 56 awards, of which 19 are gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze.
A very pleasant surprise was the gold medal of our handball players who managed to beat the Norwegians who were considered the favorites and defeated the strongest team in France in the final match. This is the first gold in handball since the 1980 home Olympics. And the famous "mermaids" Natalia Ishchenko and Svetlana Romashina carried the Russian flag at the close of the Olympics.
3. China
A total of 70 awards: 26 gold, 18 silver and 26 bronze.
For China, the Olympic Games in Rio were not without unpleasant surprises: the organizers of the games twice used the flag of their country with incorrectly positioned stars. This happened at the awards ceremony of Chinese athletes, and then the Chinese volleyball players.
2. UK
A total of 67 medals: 27 gold, 23 silver and 17 bronze.
The inhabitants of foggy Albion turned out to be the strongest in the triathlon (they took both gold and silver), at a distance of 5 thousand meters, rowing in competitions of fours and eights and in equestrian sports in a personal competition.
1. USA
Total 121 medals: 46 gold, 37 silver and 38 bronze
The US team leads the top 10 medal list of the 2016 Olympics. At the same time, very strange concessions were made to American athletes. For example, the jury of appeal allowed the female part of the US national team to run the relay qualification 4 times per 100 meters a second time. This decision was made after the statement by the runner Allison Felix that the opponent pushed her, which is why Felix could not pass the baton. There are already jokes on the web about "next time give the Americans all the gold and let them go home."
