There is an inextricable link between travel and food. No, this is not about the quality and assortment of dishes offered on the plane. Food from different countries is able to give not only taste delights, but also a lot to tell about the traditions and cultural settings of a particular country. For example, it is difficult for a Russian person to force himself to eat insects, lizards or frogs. But in many countries of Asia it is in the order of things.

Lonely Planet experts have compiled a list the most delicious dishes for touristsbased on the taste of the food, its cultural significance and the atmosphere of the place where it was served. So take something tasty so that you do not experience the pangs of hunger during the reading process, and proceed.

10. Dimsam in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's Temple Street night market is the place to buy inexpensive food, including delicious dim sum snacks that are arranged in small saucers and are traditionally served with a cup of Chinese puer tea. Appetizers can include not only fruits and vegetables, but also desserts, as well as seafood. You can find dim sums in small restaurants (tables are located right on the streets).

If you are after a hearty snack going to walk around the market and buy souvenirs to relatives and friends, then do not hesitate to bargain desperately. Prices, as a rule, are overstated by five, or even ten times.

If you are a fan of gastronomic extreme, then try snake soup - one of the most unusual national dishes in the world.

9. Pizza Margherita in Naples, Italy

There is no better place on Earth to enjoy this pizza melting in your mouth than its homeland - the bustling and beautiful Naples.

It is widely believed that in June 1889 the chef of Pizzeria di Pietro, Raffaele Esposito, invented a dish called Margarita Pizza. He named it after the Queen of Italy, Margarita of Savoy, and the filling - tomato (red), mozzarella (white) and basil (green) symbolized the colors of the Italian flag.

However, this story is doubtful because pizza with the same filling was already prepared in Naples between 1796 and 1810, although it was probably not called Margarita. In 1849, Emanuele Rocco wrote down various pizza toppings, such as basil, tomatoes, and thin slices of mozzarella. At the same time, mozzarella cheese was laid in the shape of a flower on top of tomato sauce, along with basil leaves. This may explain the real origin of the name Margarita (which means chamomile).

8. Bibimbap in Seoul, South Korea

A traditional dish based on boiled white rice is covered with vegetables, meat or seafood, seasoned with hot peppers Kochzhujan and topped with a raw egg or fried eggs. This is a definite favorite when it comes to finding a tasty and satisfying dinner in South Korea.

The name "bibimbap" literally translates as "a mixture of rice and other products." Simple, but this food was rumored to be served even on the royal table.

7. Spiny lobsters in Kaikoura Nature Reserve, New Zealand

For seafood lovers, a visit to Kaikoura, a coastal city on the South Island of New Zealand, would not be complete without tasting local lobsters. It's funny that in the translation from the Maori language, the word "Kaikoura" means "food from spiny lobsters."

And in Kaikoura, you can see whales and fur seals, even swim with dolphins.

6. Smorrebrod in Copenhagen, Denmark

One of the most delicious dishes in the world is Danish sandwich sandwiches with rye bread. They have a variety of fillings, from shrimp, herring and smoked salmon to champignons, fried beef and liver pate. In total, there are about 180 varieties of shorthair.

By the way, the high calorie content of the smorrebrod is due to the rigor of the local climate. Some sandwiches reach 10 centimeters in height.

Lonely Planet recommends the Hallernes Smørrebrød sandwich bar as the best place to enjoy the taste of smorrenbrod. There are adequate prices and very high quality products.

5. Som Tam in Bangkok, Thailand

The top 5 best food for tourists opens with a popular Thai salad made from shredded green papaya and seasoned with sweet and sour sauce. It can be found throughout Southeast Asia. Sometimes raw crabs are added to it, but we do not recommend buying such a dish, there is a chance to catch hepatitis.

4. Texas Beef Brisket, USA

There is no shortage of barbecue restaurants in Texas, but Franklin's Barbecue in Austin is one of the establishments that claims to have created a "breast cult" since it opened in 2009. That's just the lines there are just terrible, so get ready to spend about an hour of your time to get the best beef brisket in the world.

Fans of this juicy, mouth-watering dish include celebrities such as the late writer and chef Anthony Bourdin ("the best brisket I've ever eaten"), former US President Barack Obama (went out of turn, but paid for everyone, who was behind him) and American rapper Kanye West (tried to get into the queue, failed).

3. Sushi in Tokyo, Japan

You can try the best sushi in the city at Tsukiji fish market, as well as in the small restaurant "Sukiyabashi Jiro" in the most expensive urban area - Ginze. In Japan, there are special etiquette rules for eating sushi.

  • When a fresh piece of sushi is in front of you, grab it with your hands, not chopsticks.
  • Do not dip sushi in soy sauce and do not ask for an additional portion of wasabi. The chef may consider this an insult, since the taste of the dish on which he worked diligently will change.
  • Between servings, use chopsticks to pickle pickled ginger and a hand towel to clean your fingers.
  • Do not forget to pay attention to rice, and not just to fish. Sushi craftsmen spend years improving rice preparation and consider this product as important as all the other ingredients.

2. Curry Lax in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Even if you don’t like soups, indulge in tasting the fragrant curry soup, which traditionally consists of coconut milk, rice noodles, meatballs, shrimp, chicken and deep-fried tofu. It can be found in street restaurants located in Madras Lane (near Petaling Street), in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Choose the restaurant with the longest line.

If desired, spicy chili paste can be added to the soup, it is served separately. This soup is a unique tourist culinary experience that can only be obtained in Malaysia. Believe me, your taste buds will say thank you.

1. Pincho in San Sebastian, Spain

The tourist rating of the best food in the world is headed by the "child" of sultry Spain. A pincho is a bit of a small sandwich. Bread may or may not be fried, it is not as important as what is on it. And here the scope for imagination is very wide. How do you like the combination of goat cheese, quince marmalade, walnut, fried green pepper and jamon? Or a big shrimp, coarsely boiled egg, mayonnaise, mushrooms and balsamic vinegar from Modena? But this is only a small part of the components from which pinchos can be prepared.

Lonely Planet experts especially recommend pinchos in San Sebastian. To enjoy this dish to the fullest, spend a lazy day in the city, do not forget about an afternoon nap, and when it is 9 pm, go to one of the local bars. There you will find a new menu of delicious goodies and a group of people who eat and drink with appetite - just follow their example.
